The middle of the field is where games are won or lost. Centre Midfielders are key in the modern game. Playing in the middle of the park requires timing, positioning and an excellent understanding of the game. Busquets is among the best midfielders in the world. The video in this post analyses his game in detail.

Busquets plays as a defensive midfielder for Barcelona and Spain. He helped Spain win the 2010 World Cup and the Euro 2012 tournaments. He also represented the country at two other World Cups and Euro 2016.

Sergio is one of those rare cases in modern football, a one-club player. He joined the Barça youth system in the summer of 2005 and never left the club. Busquets has played 12 seasons for Barcelona, helping the team win an impressive 29 titles. These trophies include 8 Spanish championships and 3 European Champions League.

He fulfils all attributes defensive midfielders must have: conditioning, defensive skills, positioning, accurate passing and leadership. Barcelona’s official website confirms this by highlighting a 91% passing rate and 88 tackles won last season.

I play in a position that demands hard work and generosity and little glamour, but I like it. It’s my job and I like it. I would rather intercept and steal 10 balls than shoot. That’s what I’m here for, to make everyone else’s jobs easier.
